In recent years great advaces in microelectronics and computer science have been made . The use of photoelectric technique and industrial vision systems for traditional industry has become increasingly widespread, These kinds of automatic noncontact measurements are especially effecttive in production circumstances with high temperature and high speed, In this paper fifteen application areas for photoelecstric technique and computer vision in the iron and steel industry are surveyed and described.
