Iron Steel Vanadium Titanium (ISSN 1004-7638; CN 51-1245/TF; CODEN: GTFTAB) was established in 1980 and is publicly distributed both in China and internationally. The journal is recognized as a Core Journal of China, a Source Journal for Chinese Scientific and Technical Papers and Citations, and an RCCSE Core Academic Journal of China. It has also been awarded the titles of Outstanding Metallurgical Journal of China and Outstanding Sci‑tech Journal of Sichuan Province. Additionally, it is indexed and abstracted by multiple major international and domestic databases, such as SCOPUS, Chemical Abstracts (USA), Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (USA), Ulrichsweb (USA), and VINITI Abstract Journal (Russia), as well as leading Chinese databases including CQVIP, Wanfang Data, and Tsinghua Tongfang.
Originally published on a quarterly basis, the journal has been issued bimonthly since 2012. It is a comprehensive metallurgical science and technology journal and is currently the only journal in China that systematically reports on the smelting and comprehensive utilization of vanadium–titanium magnetite. The journal title was inscribed by Yi Fnag, former Vice Premier of the State Council of China and former President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who also contributed the inscription:“Strive to improve the technological processes and scientific theoretical foundations of the smelting and comprehensive utilization of vanadium–titanium magnetite.”
Iron Steel Vanadium Titanium is sponsored by Pangang Group Panzhihua Iron & Steel Research Institute Co., Ltd., with co-sponsorship from the State Key Laboratory of Vanadium and Titanium Resources Comprehensive Utilization, and the Strategic Alliance of Vanadium & Titanium Resources Comprehensive Utilization and Industrial Technology Innovation. In July 2022, Chongqing University was approved as the journal's second sponsor, injecting new vitality and momentum into the journal's development.
Since its establishment, the journal has concentrated on the development of vanadium–titanium magnetite, the application of vanadium and titanium in steel, and the comprehensive utilization of vanadium–titanium resources. It has selectively published a large number of influential studies covering major topics, including conventional blast-furnace smelting technologies for vanadium–titanium magnetite; a series of enhanced blast-furnace smelting technologies for vanadium–titanium magnetite; vanadium extraction via atomization processes and basic oxygen furnace (BOF) converter processes; semi-steel steelmaking and continuous casting technologies; vanadium micro-alloying technologies and the development of related steel grades; vanadium-bearing rails and full-length quenching heat-treatment technologies for rails; production of vanadium pentoxide from vanadium slag; titanium dioxide production and downstream processing. Through these contributions, the journal has comprehensively reflected advances in the smelting of vanadium–titanium magnetite and the development and utilization of vanadium–titanium resources. It has also documented Pangang Group's distinctive practical experience in engineering construction and industrial production. The journal has played an important role in disseminating industry trends, promoting high-quality scientific research outcomes, guiding both academic research and industrial practice, advancing technological progress in the vanadium–titanium sector, and nurturing outstanding scientific and technical talent.
The journal is supported by a highly qualified editorial board and a stable peer-review team composed of leading experts. Most editors of the journal are actively engaged in frontline scientific research and have completed professional editorial training accredited by the National Press and Publication Administration of China. With extensive experience in research and industrial practice, they possess the ability to independently evaluate scientific and technical manuscripts within their respective fields. The journal is edited and produced in strict accordance with established publishing standards and strives to integrate technical depth, innovation, specialization, and readability, thereby ensuring a high academic standard and editorial quality.
Following its revision in 2012, the journal's column structure was further optimized. The current columns include Separating and Extracting of Vanadium and Titanium, Application of Vanadium and Titanium, Resources Environment and Energy Saving, Technical Review, Ferrous Metallurgy and Materials. This reorganization has made the journal's focus on vanadium–titanium research more distinctive and has significantly strengthened its functions in knowledge dissemination.
The journal will continue to uphold academic rigor and editorial excellence and to serve as an international platform for disseminating research in vanadium–titanium science and technology, supporting researchers engaged in the development and utilization of vanadium–titanium magnetite resources.
